Features
Cost-efficiency
Pleasant to use
A public website is always available and navigation on the website is very quick.
Scalable and stable
All content is displayed to users from static files that have been distributed in over 200 locations. The use of the public website does not put a strain on content management.
Edit. Preview. Publish.
The recognised and much liked WordPress control panel and preview feature can be used as normal.
World class information security
WordPress content management is limited to the company’s intranet, ensuring that it is protected against attacks and overloading attempts.
You will not be tied to any one supplier
Headup has been developed with digital agencies in mind. Anyone, including our competitors, are free to use Headup in their projects.
Cost-efficiency
Headup withstands time and creates savings
Implementing a total overhaul of the company website once in every 2–3 years does not benefit anyone.
Only reform the user interface and visual look
Reforming the user interface and visual look of Headup websites is a lot easier, because the contents and the user interface are separate from each other.
Limitless scaling at a reasonable expense
It is easy and cost-effective to distribute static websites by means of the CDN service.
Headup is here to stay
Headup is being developed and its compatibility with the WordPress editor is being ensured in all situations. The most important add-ons of the website, such as the Polylang language switcher and search engine optimisation tools, are already compatible with Headup.
Reasonable development expenses
Compared with other similar headless solutions, Headup is a very cost-efficient solution. Purchased from Valu Digital, for example, the price of a Headup project is approximately 1.4 times the cost of a traditional WordPress implementation.
Open and available for all
Any competent WordPress house can start using the open source Headup. This means that you do not need to purchase your Headup solution from us, but you can choose your supplier freely.
Mikko Virenius
CTO
I work as the Chief Technology Officer at Valu Digital Oy and am responsible for the technologies used and for the coordination of product development activities.
My work includes the design of technical solutions, producing descriptions of the technical solutions offered, and supervising the implementations where required.
I have worked with WordPress since 2008. I have participated in the development of Headup mainly in the role of a WordPress expert.
What does headless mean?
Headup separates WordPress and the users of the website from each other
A traditional WordPress website combines content production and a public website. When a user sends a message by using a form or wants to view a page, the request will be processed by the WordPress server that is responsible for content management.
Therefore, the user (or a hacker) has direct access to the server that is responsible for the content of the website. Also, the heavier the traffic, the slower the management of the website becomes.
In the Headup solution, a static version is created of the website, which is then transferred onto a public website server. All contents of the website are included in the static copy, for which reason any user activity on the website never reaches the management server of the website.
The resulting website is secure, fast, and scalable, but its contents are still easy and quick to edit.

Certain limitations
However, Headup is not suited to all projects
Headup is excellently suited to certain kinds of projects. However, with some projects, there are very few benefits. Headup is probably not the best option for you if you need the following:
Features that require user login
Headup is not necessarily the best option if you need an intranet or a similar system that requires login and is managed through WordPress.
Online store
Headup cannot, at the present time, be used to implement an online store that must operate in the same content management system.
A Headup website can, of course, include an online store, but the management and background systems of the store must be located on a separate server.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions and often heard claims
The traditional problems related to headless solutions have been solved through over 2,000 hours of development work. This makes Headup very cost-efficient when compared to other headless solutions.
When purchased from Valu Digital, for example, the cost of a Headup project is approximately 1.4 times the cost of a traditional WordPress implementation.
In technology choices, it is key that the chosen solution resolves a real problem of the customer. Based on our experience, there is a market for headless implementations, and in this market, they are clearly the best solution to customer needs.
In the end, excellent development tools benefit the end customer through increased productivity, but we believe that this should not guide the technology choices.
Headup is a suitable solution when your company has critical communications needs or you need an especially high load-bearing capacity or information security level.
Headup is not required for all online services, as also large communications websites can be implemented by using the traditional WordPress solution.
We do not force Headup upon you, but always offer the solution that best meets your needs.
Headup uses pre-rendering, which means that a static HTML version of the website saved on a server will be offered to all users (including search engines).
Headup also supports the Seo Framework add-on, which can be used to add a title and descriptions for the use of search engines similar to traditional websites.
This means that no compromises need to be made on search engine optimisation.
Headup is here to stay
There is a demand for WordPress on markets where the traditional version cannot be used. The demand for headless WordPress will increase in larger projects in the future.
For this reason, Headup has come to stay and we have made decisions regarding future updates and further development far into the future.
